NO NO NO!!!,
This review is from: Starship Troopers (PC) (Video Game)
I really thought this game was going to be good. I thought "finally, a game made from a movie that doesn't stink". I was wrong.
Graphically, its terrible. The characters are plain, blocky and reminiscent of late 90's games. The bugs DO look fairly good, but even on a high end PC the slowdown when there are dozens of them around (forget about 'thousands of bugs', its never more than maybe 100 or 150) is painful. The scenery is plain and simple, and uninteresting.
The sound in this game is limited. The voice acting is very poor, the weapons sound sweet enough, but the bug noises are repetitive and not at all creepy.
Forget sound and vision for a bit, woeful though they may be, lets talk gameply. It is UNBELIEVABLY repetitive. Go here, kill alot of stuff on the way, blow something up. The game is terrible with timing; sometimes you need to wait for a bombing run or some other event, and your are just WAITING and WAITING for ten minutes or so, all the while facing hoardes of bugs with a diminishing arsenal. It also takes forever to kill boss bugs. You can tangle with a royal warrior or even the baby plasmas for upwards of 15 minutes if luck is not with you. 8 minutes is probably the least time it would take to take out a royal warrior.
The story is very poor, also. Videos are simply cut from the movie, even though this game is not taking place during the movies timeline, or even on the same planet. Its just go here, blow this up, kill this. Why? Cos we said so. Also, wait 10 minutes for me to open this door for you.
I would avoid this unless you can pick it up very cheap, or simply CANNOT live another minute without recreating that defending the fort scene from the movie...
