Appetite For Destruction mark II? Not yet...,
This review is from: Making Enemies Is Good (Audio CD)
Some people are said not to live their lives by the laws of nu-metal. It is even whispered that some people don't worship Slipknot...strange folk, perhaps, but maybe tomorrow they'll be cool, and your boiler suit will be thrown to the back of the wardrobe.
This album rocks. Pure and simple. I've given it 4 stars only in comparison to Total 13, which I think has the edge over MEIG. Although the slower (sometimes softer) songs are good, I think they let the Babies down, as I feel they should fire on all cylinders all the time.
Most of this album is brilliant outstanding rock'n'roll though - Payback, The Clash, Ex-Files, Bigger W/A Trigger and The Kids Are Right, for a few examples, all have the potential to be rock anthems. The standout track though (along with The Clash, in my opinion), is Brand New Hate, which sounds like a Wildhearts cover. But with Ginger listed as a co-writer, its hardly surprising.
The Backyard Babies are one of the bands most likely to take over the rock'n'roll helm with G'n'R's continued absence, and this album is a great example of what they can do.
