Potentially Limits Other Media Server Communications,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Apple AirPort Express (Accessory)
This works great for Wifi extention no end I imagine...
But I specifically ordered this for AirPlay between my PC and non-internet stereo. Then using an iTunes remote on my Android tablet to change or look at tracks etc.
Now where this goes wrong for me is Apple's sharing protocols.
Yes it works a treat for "Airplaying" music as stated, but it impeded all my other Media Server communications that are wireless or wired into it!
For example, I use my PC as a DLNA Media Server enabling me to play music, videos or pictures onto my Smart TV and other wireless devices (like Android tablets). But because its now through this router, it lost the ability to receive DLNA media information (because its not the Apple ecosystem!)
Any other router does not have this problem, but obviously does not support AirPlay...
In the end, my old FM Tuner died anyway, so brought the Denon 720ae Internet Tuner / Network Player which has AirPlay onboard, but is just an output device. This networked enabled my stereo as wanted but allows both DLNA (which everybody uses) plus the Apple AirPlay. So best of both worlds now!
Then I also went back to a normal network router.
Moral of the story, don't buy Apple network equipment unless you have everything Apple (i.e. Apple TV, iPads, iMacs, Time Capsules etc), as other electronic devices and communications might not work.
Plus this is very expensive for what it is, other network routers come with alot more wired ports for half the price and with twice the "service life" (as I've heard these Airport Express's have a tendency not to last very long too)I
