Yep, JM seems happier here. Looser. Lyrically, things are far more straightforward than ever before with interesting results. A few references to pop culture lyrics of old while talking about her latest angle on relationships. Wild Thing. I saw you standing there. The cover song. The first track sets the tone nicely, referring to the quick passing of time while quoting a song talking about time going by so slow. Very clever and very beautiful. The interweaving of the two melodies is a touch of class. There are still some jazzy types of sounds throughout the album but now the beat is more prominent. There is even some rocky electric guitar on some tracks. Extremely well produced especially for 1982. This is an important album linking her 70s style to the more layered style she has adopted since. Every track is fantastic from a musical point of view after repeat listening making this another classic, no worries. As a Bible loving person I'm uncomfortable with her treatment of the Corinthians passage which JM has quite subtly adapted in her final verse to something a bit different presumably because what is written is unpalatable or foreign (?) or whatever. Messing with the wrong thing there Joni.
