Further evidence of Toni & Dean's genius,
This review is from: Cuckoo (Audio CD)
A major improvement over Doppelganger, with a much wider variation in sound and style. It is deep and haunting, with swirling soundscapes of distorted guitars and moody synths playing out the emotions involved in a breakup of a relationship.
The opener, "Missing Link" is a heavy blast, but then the album slips into a more relaxed mode, with "Unreadable Communication" being a highlight, with Toni's breathy vocals laid gently across a growing wall of sound.
This is not a happy record; but then Curve records aren't, and that's one of the things that make them unique and also one of the most woefully underrated bands England has produced.
