Less Madonna, more Shirley Temple,
This review is from: 1980's Wild Child Costume & Wig Madonna Mod Punk Ladies Fancy Dress Size 12-14
I wanted something a little bit different for Halloween this year. Working in a call centre, it's one of the big things that you have to dress up, and you get a prize for the best dressed. I didn't win any prizes, but I did have a good laugh. After my idea for being a sexy Ghostbuster fell through, I decided to go with this. It meant I had an excuse to try out being blonde for a day and to do something a little bit different.
However, I ended up having some annoying colleagues singing "The Good Ship Lollipop" at me all day, the song made famous by Shirley Temple. So I didn't feel quite the sexy 80s Madonna that I was hoping for. Also where does Madonna wear a big curly wig? I checked all her early pop videos and she may have had her hair backcombed in the Lucky Star video, but it was nowhere near as wild and curly as this was. There was also an additional black hairband included, which simply didn't fit anywhere in the wig, as there was also a white bow (as seen in the photos). I ended up leaving the white bow in, just for the sake of it. It does actually look like I've stuck my finger in a plug socket - or been dragged through a hedge backwards.
The outfit says it fits a size 12-14, which I thought would be OK, since I'm a size 14 on the top half, but a size 8 on the bottom half. The cardigan section was the only good thing about the entire outfit. The footless leggings (a fashion that I've never understood) were baggy around the crotch - not a good look - and the vest top was much too small to be a 14. It kept riding up to reveal my stomach, so I replaced that with a black vest top I already had. The tutu was simply just alright. I'm glad I didn't have to bend down too much at work, cos otherwise my colleagues would have got an eyeful.
Overall, it wasn't the best Halloween outfit - it's not anything to frighten people, like a standard witch or anything like that - but after a disappointing sexy Ghostbuster costume, this was my cheapest option. I really doubt I will ever wear any of the outfit again or separately, unless I'm going to an 80s night or something. Even then, I would probably get people asking who I'm meant to be! I think there are better options out there than this, or you could put the outfit together yourself. If you're feeling flush however, this is the one to go for.
