not for students wanting quick or simple meals,
This review is from: The Ultimate Student Cookbook (Paperback)
I got several student cookbooks out of the library to check out for a relative living away from home for the first time because the recipes in most cookbooks are not tested (yes, this is a well-kept secret).
I graded them as if looking for easy lunchtime dishes I would want to make for myself. Nosh for Students looks OK but has very British recipes whereas my family tends to like international food with a leaning towards Asian. Best Ever Student Cookbook looked easier but the 2 recipes I tried out were bland.
This one looks a bit complicated for a beginner really just wanting to eat cheaply in digs.
In the end, I bought Jamie's 15-Minute Meals instead for my nephew. Delia and Jamie test all their recipes which might not all be to my taste but almost always come out well.
Later note: I can also recommend Mary Berry's Complete Cookbook, also featuring tested recipes. As one reviewer wrote: If you're just starting out and want to get the basics right then this book is an absolute winner for you. The recipes are simple, methods are clearly laid out, ingredients are easy to source, and easy to handle, and you'll gain some useful practical skills if you follow the directions. There's plenty of content, lots of illustrations and the whole concept of the book is "keep it simple".
