I saw a trailer for this film on another DVD, and it looked like an interesting story. I like Mary McDonnell (she that was in Dances w Wolves) so that was another reason I bought it. I love these American/Canadian based-on-a-true-story movies, and this is a good one. Donald Sutherland is good in it, as you'd expect. Mary M's part isnt big. Its a story of redemption - Donald Suth works in a a place that employs disadvantaged/handicapped people. A particularly needy employee saves Donald's life and the film tells the tale of the friendship that grew between the two afterwards - the two men both found healing and redemption thro their friendship.
The Donald S character - altho he was the 'together' one, with the good job and nice house and nice wife (Mary M) - he was just as needy in his own way, as his disadvantaged friend. They both emerge as better people. The end of the film is quite touching and warm - a real story of hope and positivity - and true as well. There's humour here as well - if you enjoyed the humour in Rain Man, then you'll find some humour in this. Im always reluctant to award 5 stars, but my 4 stars here mean - excellent story, well worth seeing.
