This review is from: Elvis Presley's Graceland, Through the Years 1957-1977 (Hardcover)
Exhaustively and lovingly assembled, this is the ultimate book on the mansion that was Elvis Presley's major symbol of success for him and his beloved parents. Graceland represents the dream of a legendary rags to riches story - the Elvis Presley story.
Built in the early 1930's and named after the lady of the house, Grace, Elvis purchased the relatively modest mansion with its sprawling grounds in 1957 immediately after his meteoric rise to super-stardom. Graceland became the 22 year old's pride and joy as well as his shield and sanctuary right up until his passing in that very mansion in August 1977.
Most impressive are the before and after acquisition photos of some parts of the house as well as rare and never before seen shots of Elvis in and around Graceland - especially those of him towards the end of his short life. And as you would expect from such a high quality volume, there are hundreds and truly spectacular photos spread over 448 foot-long pages.
This now-deleted hardcover comprehensively relates the mansion's history - before and during Elvis' time - in words and beautiful black and white and magnificent colour pictures. The book also comes in a strong protective hardcover slipcase to ensure a very long shelf life.
Purchased at around £70, I proudly own a copy and would wish the same for all serious Elvis fans. Though now deleted and very hard to find, it will be treasured if you're able to get one.
