Sawday's French Self catering 2010 edition,
This review is from: French Self-catering Special Places to Stay (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) (Paperback)As with all Sawday books as soon as you pick them up you notice how substantial & comfortable they feel in your hand, the covers have a lovely 'soft feel' about them & you can tell straight away that they are a quality publication. We found Alastair's introduction in the book enlightening & amusing and always a good read. The maps at the front are a good source of information but not with pinpoint accuracy but to be fair this is pointed out in the preface, however if you haven't read the preface you can go adrift a bit but that has only happened to me on one occasion. Now I always make reference to a proper map.
This is a really well produced book which is both pleasant just to browse through on a cold winters night or use as a guide to your next holiday property. Not a lot of entries for two people on their own & some of the properties are very expensive but I suppose if more than one family are sharing the costs then they don't work out so high.
There are also an excellent series of Indices at the back of the book which assist in finding places in your desired region or for a particular property name, those with wheelchair facilities and the location of amenities etc. All in all a very handy book with absolutely beautiful properties & excellent descriptions & pictures. I think because so much experience by the compilers goes into each book I have never been disappointed with any of them.
