"Don't Get Caught Up In The Rush",
This review is from: Back To The Old Skool (Audio CD)
It's nearly ten years ago since the Ministry of Sound released the first Back To The Old Skool CD, it was, funnily, the same cover as this - and had the tracks nearly separate. Then came the second volume, just as good the next year. So you're probably wondering why this has come back, without a CD? After all that collection was 4 disks and pretty much unmixed, now we're treated to a butchering mix by some computer that doesn't really get the vibe that the music brought to an early raver.
OK there are some brilliant tracks on here, like Altern8's Evapor8, but really the mixing lets this down on so many levels. There's not even a theme to each disk like they used to do, this is all pretty much lumped together without any order. I also enjoyed a few tracks like the Speak and Spell driven LFO (the Leeds warehouse version of course!), but really this had few highlights, and made me glad I got the MP3 edition of this, at least I could have an educated go at mixing this myself, and probably doing a better job.
This is a really poor show from a club that has been leading the way (well supposedly), and is showing that they don't really care about the music anymore. At least kids nowadays can get the unmixed editions, we used to be frustrated trying to find the tracks on 12" vinyl and paying a fortune for it. At least this is one favourable thing about the release, just this CD is awful and should be avoided if you want to hear good mixing I suggest you look at old United Dance CDs, especially Anthems 88-91, as this is a really good compilation, and worth shelling out a lot for too.

Couldn't have put it better myself, got about 4 tracks in with this and turned it off, even the sounds levels seemed to be all over the place. Ministry of Sound have been lost for years but this is terrible.

DL Productions UK says:
Yeah I thought there was something dodgy about the mastering too
