This review is from: Liz Phair (Audio CD)
I had no idea who Liz Phair was until somebody sent me "Why Can't I?". Falling in love with it, I did some research and discovered all about this fantastic female artist I had no idea existed until about a month ago.
Out of the four albums she has released up until now, this is my favourite. Granted, it's different from her previous stuff, all the songs now have a chorus, a structure and more layered and polished productions. But still, this only defines the gorgeous melodies that Liz weaves through her music, and I can definitley say there is not one song on this album that I dislike, whereas on her last three there's always one or two that I have to skip through.
Her lyrics are at their simplest here, but she hasn't lost her touch. It's evident from this album that she's having fun. She's gotten down and dirty and deep in her previous work, but here she just wants to rock out and say the things that might not keep you up at night, but will definitley put a smile on your face.
From the rocky opener "Extraordinary", the beautiful "Little Digger" and the hands-in-the-air epic "Love/Hate", this is an album for all the music fans out there that want a few guitars with their pop as well as some biting and humourous lyrics.
