A bit dated but a good jump in places,
This review is from: Stephen King: Salem's Lot [DVD] (DVD)
First off you'll have to realise that this is a made for TV adaptation of Stephen King's novel. I didn't - so when it started it began with a 'preview' of what was to come I thought I put the wrong disc in! However we soon realised what was going on and had to laugh at ourselves.
Being a tv-adaptation it has that 'made for TV' feel about it, so it's not as fluid as a movie would be, but that doesn't ruin it for you.
I have to admit that I'm used to modern movies, so watching this 1979 adaptation was different - but a great experience. There's something very retro about it which added to its charm.
The vampire effects were interesting. Mr Marlow for one is a blue Nosferatu and the others' bright yellow eyes stay with you when you close your eyes. The classic scenes of floating and scratching by the window made me double check my windows were closed and locked, the shutters were down and I slept with the lights on.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but it's not one of my favourite vampire movies. That said, I'm glad to have it in my collection.
