Dutch blu-ray release: AWESOME,
This review is from: Equilibrium [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
While both the UK and Canadian blu-ray editions of Equilibrium do not respect the original aspect ratio of the movie (cropped to 1.78:1 from the original 2.35:1), I found out a few days ago that (besides the over expensive Japanese release), there is a Dutch blu-ray edition which respects the OAR.
I went for it, and I must say it looks/sounds great to me, so I would recommend it to all those who are not willing to wait for a UK re-release respectful of the OAR (IF there's ever gonna be one), or for a correct US release, which might as well be region coded.
Audio: English DTS-HD MA 5.1
Region Code: region free!!
UPDATE: as of now, the Italian blu-ray, released in December 2011, seems to be the best way to watch this movie.
Aspect ratio is almost exactly as the original, and picture quality is great. Besides, it's quite cheap: you can find it on the Italian Amazon with the ASIN B005LZW7LE.
Here's the specs:
Video: 2.35:1 1080/24p
Audio: English DTS-HD MA 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit); Italian DTS-HD MA 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)
Extras: audio commentary by Kurt Wimmer and Lucas Foster; "Equilibrium" featurette.
Region Code: B, C (locked)

thanks! I appreciate that info as I've been holding out for the same reason. I presume the subs aren't hardcoded..??

You're welcome. Subtitles can be removed, happily.

That, I can't help you with. At the time of the review, you could find it on the Ebay.
Now, I honestly do not know. Maybe it is still available on Ebay; otherwise you might try some dutch website that provides international shipping.
