5.0 out of 5 stars A rare find, 7 Sept. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Up Pompeii : The Complete BBC Collection (DVD)
As a collector of old Sitcoms, this to me was a favourite at the time ..admittedly its a dated series which might not appeal today..The rauchy comedy was new and OTT at the time( alomg with Casanova,Emanuelle, etc) but totally tame by todays standards ,Recently acquired a copy of Whoops Bagdad a spin off series from this ..Fawlty towers and Black adder had it right ..Best just make a few great series and have em begging for more than making too many espisodes.. A rare find so get this series if you find it..Theres not many about

They dont and cannot make them like that anymore! The last of the funny men died with Morecombe and Wise. Modern comedians are like modern films - forgetable.

and like the current crop of Hollywood stars, virtually interchangeable!

The old school learned in a hard school, comedians, actors, and comedy actors alike - can you imagine any of the new breed having to face working club or theatre audiences who didn't hestitate to heckle rubbish?
