Not for the British tourist,
This review is from: Frommer's England with Wales 2012 (Frommer's Complete) (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)I won't claim to have read the whole of this book, but I thought reading sections on areas of England and Wales I was familiar with would give a good indication of the quality of this latest Frommer's. Sadly, the results weren't brilliant. My home town (a cathedral city and major tourist destination) had only a few pages with very cursory details of local attractions and areas of interest. The hotels and restaurants section was also disappointing - all realtively high-end and expensive, and two of the restaurants I had never even heard of (and I have lived here for over 30 years!). I'm unsure how the compilers of the guide choose which hotels, B+B's and restaurants to choose, and I think some clarity may be required in future editions to explain some of their more "unusual" choices. Not a great start. Two other sections I read seemed a little more detailed, but the guide seemed to be showing some defeciencies. Wales generally gets pretty short shrift; as does much of England north of Birmingham. There is a large focus on the south-east and London - but I feel that anyone arrivng in London would probably have a dedicated London guide, which would certainly be of much more use than this. Not a great guide, over all, but not terrible either for travellers on a whistlestop tour. If you are planning to visit just one area, then I would suggest buying a dedicated guide for that area.
