A wonderfully rich journey,
This review is from: The Surrogate (Kindle Edition)What a brilliantly observed story. By the time we are into our thirties, I have no doubt that we can all look at our lives and experiences and identify with some if not most of the characters within this story. The need for acceptance, love, honesty, trust, support, stability. It's all there in full force. What this story delivers is the story of a man who takes his longing for all the above to a different level. Tristan is desperate for the security a fulfilling relationship will deliver - his dysfunctional way of looking at the world doesn't allow for that to happen in what most of consider the conventional way. Meet a girl, fall in love, marry and raise a family. He just wants to get to the end of the journey without the emotional rollercoaster that goes with it.
Such is his desperation to get there, he fails to see what is staring him in the face all along - the possibility for it all which in his business focused way of trying to build his life, he misses completely.
I really loved this book, i loved the characters, i was desperate for the happy ending they all deserve. The book delivers the happy ending but i was slightly disappointed to find that we weren't privvy to all of it. The fact that the ending left a little something hanging for me doesn't detract from the rest of the book however. I am a fan of having endings spelled out for me, i like the certainty of closing the book safe in the knowledge of what the characters are doing now. I still loved this book though, the ability to see the need for emotional security from a man's perspective and identify with the same emotions many women experience was great. Well done C. J. Evans and thank you for a great story.
