golly gosh,such ferocity,
This review is from: Seven Churches (Audio CD)
possessed released seven churches in 1985,now i know slayer and metallica were around then but this is something unique,it has to be the first death metal album,it is layered with speedy thrash and enough solos to send you into cartwheels if solos get you jumping, but the gutteral screams was a first to the scene, death metal voclas have gotten harsher since this of course but this is where it all began.
possessed threw down the blueprint for what was to come,i only heard this album recently,to my knowledge it was deleted for years, anyway i was amazed that this was recorded in 1985 when it sounds so relavant today,i imagine that even black metal was influenced by this band, certainly bathory have taken a thing or two from possessed,of that i have no doubt.
there are 10 songs here that drip of evil and fury, each instrument stands out,Jeff Becerras bass is very much audible throughout and the guitars and drums are, dare i say haunting, lyrically the band lean towards the occult and satan, the solos are very technical at times and all in all this is some album,a defining album,i never knew this band released something as seminal as this as few of todays metal bands mention them, but i know that possessed have released something very significant to our world of heavy metal baby!
