This review is from: Morning Glories Volume 1 TP (Paperback)
I read the first few pages on amazon using the 'Look inside' feature and was immediately intrigued by the first chapter. I think this book is a great read and right up my alley in terms of not treating the reader like a buffoon. Yes it throws shocks and ideas at you but as with any narrative you have to assume that either these will be answered or the themes will resonate with you and leave you thinking about the symbolic meanings of them. Surely thats the sign of a good series?
It's why I enjoy reading 'Chew Volume 1: Tasters Choice' as daft and screwball as that series is. Like 'Chew' the artwork is great but the thing that steals it for me (and again where 'Chew' succeeds) is in the narrative but more specifically the script. Fanboys gush about Buffy and Terry Pratchett's 'humour' but for me those 'funny' scripts are forced and totally unbelievable whereas the script in this flows naturally and is smart and succinct enough to be amusing and funny.
Already ordered Volume 2 and am expecting greater things...I would strongly recommend reading this!
