Yet another marmite movie,
This review is from: The Blair Witch Project [DVD] (DVD)
Yep, it's one of those films: you're either going to love it or hate it (Warning: if you watch this film with someone who hates it, they will probably spend the entire duration whingeing about the amateurish camera-work).
I fall into the "love it" camp simply because the first time i ever saw it (in the cinema when i was only 14 so really it serves me right)it scared me so much that i did actually almost cry!
The story follows three students, Heather, Josh and Mike as they embark on a doomed expedition into the woods to film a documentary on the infamous blair witch...
As they lose themselves deeper and deeper in the wilderness, the increasingly agitated students find themselves entrenched in a nightmare from which they cannot wake, tormented by strange noises in the dark and stalked by an unknown evil. Will they ever find their way out of these seemingly never-ending woods? I think we all know the answer to that.
This film is scary because it plays on our basic fears: namely, death, the dark and the unknown. However, as nothing is properly "revealed", this film requires a hefty dose of the viewer's imagination. So if you've got imagination in spades, you're onto winner but if you prefer the blood-and-guts-in-your-face type horror that requires no viewer involvement, you might be better off looking elsewhere.
Like i said, it's a marmite movie.
