It is probably a slight exaggeration that the light intensity is like a 250 W halogen lamp, but the light is indeed at least close to that strong (perhaps like a 150 and 200 W lamp), and it radiates very little heat.
The lamp is therefore well suited for lighting plants indoors during the winter season. Basil and rosemary seem to grow just fine in its light.
At the time, it was the best watt-per-pound LED alternative that I could find. But the other day, I saw a campaign from a local home-improvement store, with 5 W GU 5.3 LEDs at a price of three for about 10 pounds. That might make for a more compact and flexible solution at a similar price point.
Be aware that the cord is very short and does not come with a plug. The best solution for indoor use is to attach an in-line switch (with facilities for connecting the grounding wire) and then a longer 3-wire cable with a mains plug.
