Downright amazing value for money,
This review is from: Behringer Bugera 5W V5 Boutique Style Class A Valve Combo Amplifier with Reverb and Power Attenuator (Electronics)
I have to own up to being a bit of a collector of high end guitars and valve amps, but there's always room for one more eh? Among my 'go-to' amps are a 72 Fender Twin Reverb a Fender SuperSonic 22 an early Fender silver face champ a Fender Blues Junior a Fender Pro Junior and a Marshall silver jubilee series 2554. What chance has a sub 135 quid amp got against these thoroughbreds?
Well I hooked it up to the mains turned on the power and upped all levels to about 12-o-clock with it on 5w setting. At first I thought it was broken as it was so silent! (My Fender Pro junior over 3 times the price was noisy as hell out of the box).
A host of guitars at my disposal I grabbed my old faithful American G&L Legacy Special, plugged in and revelled in the tone of this little beauty. It screamed like a banshee on the power blade bridge pickup so I turned it to the 1w setting - stunning in all pickup positions again so let's try 0.1w, again absolutely incredible but at a more bedroom friendly level. I plugged in my 45 year old Gibson Les Paul gold top and I'm in humbucking heaven, this amp is not just good it's amazing at this price point. I just hope it's reliable as I reckon this would easily hold it's own on a small stage or perhaps with an SM57 on what is a very responsive little speaker.
Oh and it looks great, nice retro styling very reminiscent of a 'MATCHLESS' but sans the price tag. Lovely dog bone handle that puts the cheap thing Fender stuck on my Blues Junior to shame! Chicken head knobs which are totally silent in operation (no crackles).
So finally which amp would I retrieve from a burning house? well most of mine are quite heavy but if it were a toss up between the blues Junior and the Bugera V5 - I'd have the V5 and the £400 left over.
