Nearly as good as being there!,
This review is from: Still Life (Hardcover)I bought this as a gift for my photographer husband.
The photographs take the reader to classic locations associated with the great age of Antarctic Exploration.
The choice of subjects and quality of the images is exceptional and the book allows the armchair visitor a significant antarctic experience, showing detail and places few will ever manage to visit. This is a book that complements the records made by the early explorers themselves and deserves a place on the shelf of anyone who wants to look back at antarctic exploration/life in the early decades of the 20th-century.
We went to the relatively accessible Antarctic Peninsula last year and photographed some of the historic huts there. This book reminded us how much we loved this most beautiful, savage and fragile place, and re-inforced our dream of returning even if we never manage the challenging journey to reach the places depicted so gloriously in Still Life!
