This review is from: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS3) (Video Game)
The length of this game has been much discussed, so lets just say if you want a full game for your twenty quid, look elsewhere. If however you want to experience the most fluid, gorgeous looking Metal Gear Solid game to date, buy now.
Continuing on from the brilliant Peacewalker Ground Zeroes follows Big Boss and Kaz Miller in their attempt to rescue Chico and Paz from the Omega prison camp. Immediately on starting this game you can tell everything has been honed to perfection. Aiming, cover, CQC, weapon switching... it's all so smooth. Unlike previous MGS titles now you get a large map to sneak around, and it makes sneaking all the more rewarding. The best part of the main quest (their are several side-ops after the main mission) is that it doesn't hold your hand, it lets you work out the best way to achieve your goal. The enemies are also the most challenging in an MGS game, they are alerted to noise or even the slightest of motion. You have to stick to the shadows a lot and plan your routes. I really liked the ability to tag enemies too (ala FarCry) as without it the game would have been perhaps a little too difficult.
The graphics are amazing, even on the PS3... in fact if this is what the PS3 can achieve I won't be switching to the PS4 just yet. The story, although very small with not many reveals, is actually gripping and quite emotional. It's testament to the genius story telling of Hideo Kojima.
All in all this game will have you champing at the bit to play The Phantom Pain (set for release early 2015). Being a MGS fan since the PS1 days I just can't wait.
