Sticks in the brain like a splinter...,
This review is from: Mulholland Drive [DVD] (DVD)
I'm not a massive fan of David Lynch's previous work, but I certainly admire his efforts in bringing us thought provoking work, and Mulholland Drive is no exception.
On first viewing, the film seems fairly standard and, well, a bit dull really but this all changes 2/3rds of the way in when things go very Lynchian.
The chances are you'll watch it a second time straight away and what was previously a bit tedious comes alive with mystery, and its on this viewing that you know you have purchased a masterpiece.
I certainly believe that there is an 'absolute truth' to this movie but finding it (and not changing your mind) is like nailing water to a wall.
Its a puzzle with a few pieces missing which forces you to make the missing pieces youself and wedge them in.
Infuriating ? Maybe. Frustrating ? A little. Beautiful ? Certainly.
