Great character, shame about the typos,
This review is from: Bill Slider Omnibus: Orchestrated Death/Death Watch/Necrochip (Paperback)
As a devotee of English crime fiction, I was delighted to discover Bill Slider and his side-kick Atherton. I think the stories are well plotted and Ms Harrod-Eagles writes with style and humour (although she does tend to overdo the terrible puns and references to Alice in Wonderland a bit!) and it is pity she has been so let down by the lack of editing on the part of her publisher. I don't know whether the original books were scanned to create the omnibus edition, but even so the second volume in particular was so full of typographical errors it was sometimes difficult to know what was meant! A quick run-through with a spell-checker would have resolved most of the problem. As a translator by profession, it amazes me how often this basic step seems to be forgotten in publishing nowadays.
That said, for lovers of old-fashioned police procedurals, I can highly recommend the series.
