A highly valuable and beneficial text for all student and registered Paramedics.,
This review is from: Foundations for paramedic practice: a theoretical perspective: A theoretical perspective (Paperback)
Foundations for Paramedic Practice: A theoretical perspective edition one, I believe, was the first textbook designed specifically for Paramedics that covered the underlying values and principles of Paramedic practice that otherwise is not necessarily covered in depth.
This second edition continues to add valuable and highly important information on a wide variety of topics including communication, psychology, sociology, social policy and psycho-social aspects as well as ethics and law, vulnerable patient groups and end of life care. It also looks at professional practice and continual professional development along with leadership, decision making and specialist development roles which all play an important part of pre - registration and undergraduate pathways as well as when the step is taken to become a registered practitioner and to continually develop in the post - registration phase of a Paramedic career.
The way these topics are presented within the text makes what can be a "dull" yet highly important subject area seem extremely interesting and useful. The case study's and "stop and think boxes" continually remind the reader of the importance of these topics to the role of the Paramedic.
The main audience for this text book would be Paramedics and I feel it is an essential text for all Student Paramedics throughout their period of study and a highly recommended text for registered Paramedics and Paramedic mentors, however, in addition to this, I believe it is also an extremely useful tool for all grades of operational staff to broaden their knowledge and understanding of social and ethical perspectives.
I am currently a third year student Paramedic on a BSc (Hons) Paramedic Practice Programme and I have used the initial edition of this text throughout my period of study for specific modules as well as a tool of aid my own personal knowledge and understanding of other areas included.
This textbook is a fantastic collaboration of theoretical topics which aids in both academic and practical areas of Paramedic Practice and will aid every student and registered Paramedic. The continual relation to practice I feel will increase interest and assist all Paramedics in both their personal and professional development both pre and post registration.
I have found this an enjoyable and extremely beneficial text and I would highly recommend it!!
