I love real fountain pens and hate biros...,
This review is from: Pentel Fountain - Black (pack of 12) (Office Product)
...but there are circumstances in which you need a disposable (or at least a cheap) pen and these are a great compromise. Depending on which way up you hold it, the nib is either smooth and flexible or fairly firm (which I don't like - for firm read slightly scratchy) and it adapts itself to your writing style as you use it (since the nib is plastic it does this a lot quicker than a real fountain pen). They last a surprisingly long time too, so this 12 pack will last you a couple of years, at minimum, unless you are writing an awful lot or are good at losing them! The best part about it is that they genuinely feel rather like a real fountain pen to use and so your handwriting will have the flow that a real fountain pen lends it. At less than £1.50 per pen (at time of writing) this is superb value.
Most disposable/cheap fountain pens, within a couple of quid of the price of a single one of these, are awful - it's like writing with a metal spike dipped in ink so these are well worth getting instead.
EDIT: I gave my mother one of these to try and she has declared them to be excellent pens for shorthand (pitman's) as you can easily get differentiation in line thickness.
