Bad picture and boring production,

This review is from: Schalcken The Painter (BFI Flipside ) (DVD + Blu-ray) (DVD)
I have read the original story when I was 16 or 17 years old and found it strange and quiet thrilling. It had a very sick atmosphere.
This film adaption ist exquisitely shot, every picture is like you see an old painting. Unfortunately the blu ray tranfer is very bad. It is very grainy. It is quiet possible, that the original material is not as good because it's a TV-production. But it's sad, that the picture quality is such as bad.
Furthermore the film is too slow and too less emotional to thrill me. When the demon lover returns to take his bride back to the grave the acting of Schalcken, the painter and the uncle of the girl is total unemotional The film takes too much time to show Schalckens life before his beloved had gone. After she had been taken back to the grave, he did not become desperate nor he tried all to find and save her. Instead the film shows his life if nothing had happend. I cant't imagine why they have made the film like this. It's not a real ghost story but rather a film about the life of a painter in the 17th century with a little creepy subplot.
I'm a bit dissapointed about the film and the transfer.
