The cover of this book is gorgeous. I love it! The colour, the feel, the foil blocking, even the weight of the book itself. It is without doubt a charming and beautiful book, contemporary yet stylish.
The writing is interesting and as easy to read as you might expect from an author who blogs, but the recipes just don't do it for me at all I'm afraid, hence only a two star review. "Sticky black rice" and "venison biltong" were noticeable low points. The desserts, drinks and the "peanut butter protein shake" looked tasty though. These were however the exception amidst a book full of recipes that just didn't seem appetising to me at all.
If it wasn't for the recipes, then I'd give this book five stars, but sadly that's what you'd probably buy it for, unless of course you share Allegra McEvedy's obvious knife fetish!
If you like world food like the natives would cook it, you'll love the book. If you have a bizarre love of knives, you'll love it. If you're taste in food is more sanitised for the Anglo-American market... good luck.
