Pretty Good Performance.,
This review is from: Prokofiev: L'amour Des Trois O [DVD] [Region 1] [NTSC] (DVD)
I will start off with the sad news, it is not the best staged performance, the set is mainly a semicircle with props brought in and out of central curtains. This lets the performance down a bit.
The costumes are the opposite, they are imaginative and appropriate and enhance the production.
The star performers for me are Charles Workman, the prince, he is always good, and has a very pleasing mellow voice and Barry Banks as Truffaldino. Banks has a very clear tenor, he also shows a great sense of fun. He has tremendous energy and his knee tremors when frightened are worth watching.
The other performers are all up to standard, there is not a weak link among them.
There is a pantomime quality abput the production which really suits this opera.
Just a point worth mentioning, the quick change of princess to rat and back is very slick.
For the finale all the characters parade across the stage to a reprise of the famous march, before taking there individual bows.
