The new model is significantly smaller, lighter and cheaper - I guess they could have included it and charged more for the product but since probably 95% of people did not need the adapter (as they could plug it in to any computer or already had an AC to USB adapter) it would have increased the cost unnecessarily. Apple do not supply AC adapters with their iPods either for the same reason.

Go to the Apple site and see they are charging £26 for the same thing - the adaptor for iPod with no lead.
The ones you can buy from ebay for £2 are fakes and may cause fires.

Anything can cause a fire if it's badly made. Big companies can do this too. Just do a bit of research and you can find a 'fake' adaptor that is recommended and well made. Pick one at random and perhaps it will catch fire. Buyer beware basically.

My existing iPhone/iPod adapter works fine to charge my Kindle too and I have a) saved money and b) don't need to worry about cheap ones which could cause fires as they're faulty!! Result!!!!!
