4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful package, wonderful films, 22 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Complete Dr Phibes [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
So wtf? My brand new Samsung region-free Blu-ray player won't play this? What's "Region B"?
I was so looking forward to watching this in crystal clear 1080p on my brand new Vizio but...I can't so let's look at the packaging since I assume everyone here knows about the films.
Delicious is the word that comes to mind. The discs are wrapped in their own cardboard gatefolds and there is a beautiful umpteen-page booklet with all kinds of thoughts from those involved and memorabilia. The downside to this is that the booklet is so well bound that you dare not open it for fear of breaking the spine. It means that the writing disappears downhill and the beautiful double-page pictures are not there to be seen in their entirety. Such a pity. The booklet stands the chance of never being read...
There are ways to watch the discs now but, in closing, let me just say that Dr. Phibes was Vincent Price at his very ham horror best. With a package like this, I have absolutely no doubt that the films have been done wonderful justice.
Update: They have. Beautiful picture, crisp, clear sound. Worked on by people who obviously cared. A winner so, having watched them now, the package goes up a star.

It might be that your region-free blu-ray player is only region-free for DVDs (coded 1 to 6) and not for Blu-rays (coded A-B-C).
Modifications to make blu-ray players region-free for blu-rays are ususually complicated and costly. If you bought your player in a regular shop (or big-chain internet store), it's probably not region-free for blu-rays.

Thanks but it's not another region-free Blu-ray player I need. It's a Region B player which I don't plan to buy just for the sake of this set.

Thanks for that but I am thinking that something to do with the authoring of the set makes it impossible to play on the player that I bought. It is the only import title that does this, so I think I will have to let it go and settle for watching it via the pc.
