1.0 out of 5 stars Hyped up tuneless gubbins, 18 May 2011
This review is from: Goblin (Audio CD)
First up I'm 37 years old and always on the look out for new music...I don't believe that there is no decent music being made any more like the vast majority of my generation. When I read about Odd Future and Tyler I was actually quite excited and checked out all the free albums on the Odd Future site. The problem here is that this has all been done before. I understand that Tyler is doing all this for shock value and more power to him for trying to inject a bit of controversy in this day and age...BUT there are no tunes here. The whole skit thing with his psychiatrist (or alter ego) was overdone on 'Bastard' and so becomes even more tiring on this album. I heard 'Yonkers' which IS a very good tune before this album and had high hopes but 'Goblin' is a complete let down. It pains me that kids are listening to this crap and think it is cutting edge. Go and listen to Dr.Octagon where it has been done a whole lot better and has tunes you can actually listen to more than once.
Tyler, The Creator my arse.

I don't agree with all you say but I thought your review was very good. But I agree that kids should get out and listen to Dr Octagon though not the second album.

You don't get it. Im sorry, I know music has no bounds but at least Hip Hop is getting a more skater/indie image than the who gangsta rap scene. Goblin is actually making hip hop look credible and inventive whether you like it or not.

He doesn't get it? Go listen to some Dr Octagon and Esham, or even Brotha Lynch Hung's first album or two, then YOU might get it.

S. Wallace says:
Homophobia, misogyny, hypocrisy and Fisher Price beats are credible and inventive? Yeah right.
