5.0 out of 5 stars An old folk tale retold, 30 May 2008
By
This review is from: Chicken Licken (Usborne First Reading: Level 3) (Hardcover)
from the 'Usborne First Reading' series of books.

This particular story is LEVEL THREE.

From the back cover:-

'...."The sky is falling!" cries Chicken Licken. Soon every animal in the farmyard is rushing to warn the King. Even sly old Foxy Loxy wants to help. Or does he?....'

48 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages. Beautifully illustrated throughout... humorous in places... this super book is further enhanced by relevant facial expressions and speech bubbles.
Complete with bright yellow ribbon bookmark!

Example of text:-

'This is a story about Chicken Licken, Henny Penny, Cocky Locky, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, Turkey Lurkey and Foxy Loxy.
This is where they live.
Once upon a time, there was a farm.
Most of the animals on the farm were happy.
But Chicken Licken wasn't happy.
Chicken Licken was scared of everything.
One day, Chicken Licken went to the woods.
He stopped by an old oak tree.
Suddenly, a tiny acorn dropped from the tree
and hit Chicken Licken's head......'

Wheee, Bonk...Ouch!
But as Chicken Licken fails to see the tiny acorn, he thinks the sky is falling ....and rushes to tell the King, involving all and sundry on the way except Foxy Loxy who slyly diverts all on a rather selfish detour....then an acorn hits him on the head .........

'Chicken Licken is a very old folk tale. No one knows who first wrote it, but it may come from a similar story in the Jataka - a collection of Buddhist tales.....'
