This review is from: James Braid Champion Golfer (Hardcover)
This isn't the longest and most detailed golfing biography you'll ever pick up but it does give an interesting insight into the early days of golf at the turn of the previous century. Having read 'Tommy's Honour' (about Young Tom Morris) and Harry Vardon's biography this complements them nicely and brings a little colour and humanity to someone who often looks quite austere and dour in the black and white photographs that are available. The life and times of early golf professional's are far removed from the pampered show ponies that are around today and it's refreshing to read about the struggles of men who played for the love of the game and the honour and prestige of the trophies rather than simply milking the cash cow of the modern tour.
