A journey inside the mind of a Football Fanatic,
This review is from: Ode to Jol: A Spurs Fan's Diary (Paperback)
Reading `Ode to Jol' made me wonder if someone had stolen my own diary and for the 2005-2006 season following Spurs until I remembered that a) I wouldn't be able to find the words to accurately recreate on paper the highs and lows of one of the most up and down seasons for the rollercoaster ride that is being a Tottenham fan, as Ally Gold has so entertainingly achieved, and b) I don't keep a diary. If Jol and Gold had got together at the start of the season they woudn't have been able to create the plot twists which occured for the year that followed. Yet, despite it being one mans recollections of his beloved Spurs, this book could easily be about the lengths that any supporter of any team go to to get their football fix. The day-dreaming, the frantic search for snippets of news while on holiday, the understanding family and friends who know when to keep their distance when results have taken a turn for the worse, `Ode to Jol' captures it all in Gold's unique and often comically warped style of writing. A must read for anyone who has a true passion for the game of Football or indeed for anyone else who is trying to understand them.
