Why oh why is Eric Gales still languishing in a blues backwater? Beats the hell out of me - witness this album for yourself and see just how formidable a player he is -and his vocals ain't bad either.
I know that he's been compared to Hendrix over the years, but while that in itself is an "honour", Mr Gales is definitely NOT trying to cash in on the Hendrix commercial ticket, he just produces damned fine albums of which Relentless is just another excellent example.
Kicking off with a straight electric blues in the form of Bad Lawbreaker, we are soon into one of his solos which are played with such an attack that it is a delight for any guitar lover to hear. And it doesn't stop there, we get mid paced blues in the form of On The Wings Of Rock N Roll, together with some blues rock in Block The Sun and The Liar, together with some funk in A Little More Time, a sublime instrumental in Universal Peacepipe (which would do credit to the likes of Mr Satriani!) and the fun, rip off of ZZ Top's La Grange in The Change In Me.
All in all, a fine album which should proudly sit in any blues or blues rock fan's collection.
