The Real Deal,
This review is from: L.A.M.F.- The Lost '77 Mixes (Audio CD)
This is my favourite album of all time, it's the Ramones with extra chords and great playing and this is from someone who was there in 76/77 and buying all the Punk singles / albums releases including the Pistols, Damned, Clash, Buzzcocks etc.
Forget the New York Dolls, this was drummer Jerry Nolan's finest hour (and he was by far best musician in the Dolls) the power he projects is unbelievable, like a punk John Bonham. (Many Punk bands tried to do Dolls covers at the time but couldn't because the drum patterns were too complicated) The mix of Walter Lure's expert lead guitar and Thunders unique, sonic sarcastic tone guitar is a joy. Forget the drug stories and the later sad decline of the two Ex Dolls, at the time they recorded this they were unbelievably tight and powerful having practiced / gigged in New York endlessly. This is why they were held in such awe by the Pistols and the Clash and other punks at the time they originally came over for the Anarchy tour. This even more than the Pistols album or Clash first album (great albums that they are) is the real deal. Play it loud.
