This is one of these books that I found hard to put down. We have a story with a basis of fact following Prefect Cato and his close friend Centurion Macro, Roman soldiers, they are sent to wild Wales to the edge of the Roman Empire to control the natives. which proves to be near impossible. This is a fast paced story which is very bloody in the battle scenes of which there are many, as you would expect there are politics in the back ground and one person on their own side that causes a lot of problems. A well written story/tale with a good pace and lots of detail and characterisation to keep your attention at a good level.. Life meant very little in these days and to die a good soldiers death with Honour was regarded as a good way to die for the regiment and your family. The different methods of conducting a battle are very well described, It was true that if you got injured the likely hood you would survive was small... As a Historical thriller of a novel you will enjoy...
