A linear projection of current trends,
This review is from: The 2020 Workplace: How Innovative Companies Attract, Develop, and Keep Tomorrow's Employees Today (Hardcover)
For a book about the future of organisations, this book contains surprisingly little surprises. Social recruitment, über-connection, social learning and accelerated leadership are trends that are currently folding to bigger or lesser extend, dependent on the industry, region or corporate culture you're in.
Much of the insights in this book are starting from the observation of these trends and project them 10 years from now, within the same paradigm. This is a well established methodology, although questionably valid for such a topic (for instance, aging population can be predicted relatively accurately for the longer term).
Luckily, the book contains plenty of very insightful examples of how companies are dealing with these trends.
But it's too bad the more 'disruptive' thoughts are only briefly covered at the end of the book. Crowdsourcing, gamification, consumerization, etc are changing the paradigm of organizations. To know how the organization will look like in 2020, you have to take these into account and 'connect the dots' between all these trends. This book somehow falls short on that ambition.
