Plot/Storyline: 5 Stars
This novel is basically a character study of a dysfunctional family told through the eyes of the youngest child, who is now a middle-aged adult. The stories will make you laugh, cry and gasp.
We find out about all aspects of this family a little at a time with anecdotes told in bits and pieces throughout the story. I would get an image in my head of certain characters, then later have that image shattered when more truth comes out.
I am usually not a big fan of books that jump around in time a lot, but this story could not have been told any other way.
This book is an emotional roller coaster. Get on and ride!
Character Development: 5 Stars
This novel is all about character development, and it hits its mark every time. Throughout, you will be changing your view of each character as you learn more about them.
I felt the main character. I felt her emotions and empathized. I was even brought to tears a couple of times.
Writing Style: 5 Stars
Ms. Thompson effortlessly paints us a picture of an entire life with her wonderful prose. I loved the pace of her writing, not too fast, not too slow, just right. Her imagery and metaphors were simply excellent.
There were a few editing errors, but not much more than you would find in a commercially published book. The Kindle formatting was excellent.
Overall: Ms. Thompson is a truly unique voice in modern literature.
Rating: PG for adult situations.
