Poor quality but great iron-ability,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Bosch Ultimate Power Steam Generator, 1.3 Litre, 2900 Watt, White (Kitchen & Home)
I purchased this iron a few months ago for the first time. The iron itself (without the base) did feel a bit light at first and I was a bit doubtful that it would be able to effectively iron heavy fabrics such as jeans. I have always owned a Tefal iron which I have loved. My last iron was a Tefal steam generator but the sole plate kept on burning fabrics and getting damaged. Hence, the main reason I purchased the Bosch was the "perfect" temperature setting which would ensure that no more fabrics would burn. This coupled with the known quality of Bosch made me try something different from Tefal. The iron itself was fantastic. The lightness of the iron makes no difference to the effectiveness of the iron. Jeans/shirts are a breeze to iron. Comparing to the Tefal iron, I would probably rank the bosch ahead of the Tefal with regard to iron-ability. The Bosch also has a function whereby when you press the steam buttom at the top of the handle there are three short bursts of steam at regular short intervals. This is a great feature and I think it really helps with the ironing.
The iron and base unit however do feel very cheap as the plastic does not seem as good quality as the Tefal irons. The same can be said for the sole plate. The water tank is probably the worst part of the iron as it feels like it would crack after some use.
The main issue I had with this iron was that after 3 weeks of use, my iron gave out a big banging noise and a large shot of steam exploded out from the base of the unit (luckily I was not standing too close to it!) after which it stopped producing any steam at all and the iron became inoperable. The iron has hence been returned. This is definitely not the quality I was expecting from Bosch.
My particular item was most likely a fault piece. However, given concerns I had over the quality of the plastic on the unit and the fact it effectively blew up I have decided against this model. The rationale for a 3 star is : 5 stars for iron-ability and functionality (main ones being the perfect temperature setting and the auto shut off) and 2 stars for build quality - overall 3 star.
