This review is from: Fatherland (Paperback)
I read this book after reading the novel 'Dominion' by C J Samson. In the foot notes at the end of that story, the author mentions 'Fatherland' as being the very best alternative history story. He wasn't kidding. What a premise and what a totally convincing portrayal of a society that thankfully never was. I saw a TV film about ten years ago regarding a particular event in history and due to recalling one of the characters' names that appears in this book, I got an inkling of where the story could be heading. Suffice to say, it doesn't disappoint as the story runs its course. A nice understated bit of romance is included which, at the outset seems the least likely development.
In summary, thoroughly recommended, and the biggest surprise of all is after all these years since the book has been published, no film has been made. It would be a cracker.
