mystical black metal,
This review is from: Moon in the Scorpio (Audio CD)
Limbonic art is comprised of two members, while the drums are created thanks to the aid of a drum-machine. Moon in the Scorpio is their debut album and is everything that black metal scorned at the time, coupling ferocious guitars and light-quick drums to majestic symphonies. The bassis non-existent in this album, the two members preferring to use the guitars to build up a wall of sound. Every song lasts over 6 minutes, the vocals veer between traditional black metal shrieks and baritonal choruses reminiscent of Ulver.
The production is impeccable, creating the right balance between guitars, drum-machine, vocals and synthesizer and conjuring up a decadent atmosphere.
The stand-out track, although every single song is majestic in itself, is the first one, "Beyond the candles burning".
The only reason I give it (only) 4 stars is to differentiate it from their follow up, "In abhorrence Dementia" that managed to top it. This is the perfect album for you whether you like old-school black metal with melodic influences or whether you prefer Dimmu Borgir and their like's more violent and disturbing parts.
