2.0 out of 5 stars They can't all be Conan, 25 Jun. 2012

This review is from: Deathstalker [1984] [DVD] (DVD)
If you're considering this, then you've watched all the good ones and are doing some genre research in the hope of finding a gem of a movie tucked away in a darkened corner. To be fair, you're not far off with this one as this is one of the better B movie Conan rip offs. With your expectations managed accordingly, you might even enjoy it. There's plenty of action on offer, it's not pedestrian by any means but don't expect to see the slick choreography seen in bigger budget sword and slash fests. The story is well worn and the acting is hammy as ever but they have had a crack at the costumes and sets. Rick Hill has loads of muscles but none in his face it would seem, as it doesn't change much when he delivers his lines, unlike Lana Clarkson; she genuinely seems to believe every word she's saying, even when half nekkid! Having said that, this is an enjoyable romp and a welcome addition to the genre.
