This review is from: The Short Victorious War (Honor Harrington Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
Honor Harrington, having been put back together by the medics after her previous adventure, is awarded a prestige new Battlecruiser command, and finds herself as flag captain to an admiral with whom she works really well, as part of a frontier fleet "keeping an eye" on the dangerously aggressive People's Republic of Haven. She even finds the time to find true leurve!
All going well for our heroine would make for a dull read, however, and Honor and her new boss find themselves overruled by the fleet commander, with results which threaten disaster, just as a pall is cast over proceedings by her past...
As well as the fleet and starship - related "front story", in this book Weber creates an interesting back story of political machinations both sides of the line, with strong parallels with revolutionary France and Russia in Haven.
The things which I really love about this series are a well developed cast of interesting characters and the way in which Weber has created a starship combat situation in which the ships are treated as ships which must work together in fleets, with "Wall of Battle" tactics, rather than treating the ships as giant fighter planes.
A rewarding installment in a rewarding series for anyone who likes good quality military sci-fi.
