3.0 out of 5 stars Not great, 16 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Tao Te Ching (Dover Thrift Editions) (Paperback)
I may be too harsh but I was a bit disappointed with the translation. I felt the cover art was a bit underdone compared to other Dover Thrift efforts. That is not my main concern with this product, however. The translation is not great. I have read editions which deal with the massive grammatical difference between English and Chinese better. I would recommend the Wordsworth Classics edition of Tao Te Ching to those less familiar with Taoist philosophy.

The point missed by most of us,is that we have no idea what chinese life and custom was like
2.4 millenea ago.We must therefore,be very careful when reading the text.this work is a honey
trap for those of us who wish to have confirmation of their own opinions. This should be the start of a long journey, requiring us to read chinese philosophy from many different sources, this
will help in our understanding of the tao te ching.
