Once it was so different,
This review is from: The Sky Is Crying (Audio CD)
Today there must be 3 dozen Elmore James CDs in the shops yet I don't think there was even one track available in the UK till about the mid 60s when the bluesman had passed away.
Which seems rather odd as Dust my Broom is possibly the greatest sound ever made in the name of the blues but only by Elmore James who recorded the song a number of times. What makes it special is the slide guitar
It all seemed to start when the complete works of Robert Johnson came out on an LP and apparantly Dust my Broom had been recorded first by him in the 30s but nowhere near as intense.
The song is one of the few blues ones not about sex and has a life of its own with one of the first U K versions by the original Fleetwood Mac.
Many other Elmore James songs have been covered since like Shake your moneymaker and the title song The sky is crying.Recently Bob Dylan passed off Rollin & Tumblin as his own work!!
