An attempt to clear up the 'no bass' mystery,
This review is from: Etymotic Research HF2 iPhone and iPod Headset - Black (Electronics)
Basically I'm very happy with these. Now.
I got them about 6 months ago. The flanged tips didn't fit at all (too long for the wider flanges to fit in my ear) but the foam one basically worked. Everything was clear, but the bass was a bit lacking. Recently, the foam tips needed replacing, so I tried some Comply TX100 ones. Now they sound SUPERB, completely smooth and natural.
Previously I've used much cheaper senheiser headphones, which had a very boomy bass, but the default medium tips fitted perfectly.
So in summary:
The drivers are excellent
There is less bass than on some cheaper headphones, just because the bass is flat and not boomy.
There is a moderately common ear shape that can wear senheiser (and sony) earphones with the default tips, but NONE of the supplied Etymotic tips work properly.
If you buy these and find none of the tips fit properly, consider getting tips from third parties like Comply.
